campaigning

A cornerstone of the community and voluntary sector is its long history of campaigning, whether a small local campaign to save a local service from closure or a big national campaign. Rather than rush into activity remember that a successful campaign is likely to be well planned, with clear aims, targets and methods.

Thinking through your campaign and planning it is vital. Start of by asking yourself
  • what do we want to change?
  • how are we going to do it?

Your plan should cover:

  • being clear about who you want to influence
  • setting goals or milestones
  • ensuring you have a strong case
  • working in a team
  • planning how much time and money are involved
  • looking at how you will get the message across

The National Council for Voluntary Organisations website is developing  a range of useful campaigning resources.

Charities that are involved in political campaigning can only do so in the context of supporting the delivery of its charitable purposes. It is important that charities get this right. Charity Commission guidance details what and what is not possible.
