membership

We seek to equip Southwark's voluntary and community organisations with the tools and information they need to achieve their objectives.  We provide training and one-to-one support on a wide range of topics to empower our members to develop and grow, and we represent our members to local government and more widely.

how to join

CAS Membership* is free and open to individuals or organisations who 

i.      complete the membership application form, and

ii.     support the charity's legal objects, and

iii.    are approved by the Board of Trustees 

There are three types of membership: 

  • Full Membership
  • Affiliate
  • Friend

Full membership

Full membership is open to:

  • local and  sub-regional voluntary and community groups working in and providing public benefit to the residents of the London Borough of Southwark 

and/or

  • national voluntary and community groups, where the Head or Main Office is located in  Southwark, working in and providing public benefit to the residents of Southwark.

Rights of full members:

i. Attend, speak and vote at an AGM

ii. Propose and second motions

iii. Appoint proxy

iv. Stand for and propose members to Trustee Board

Every member whether an individual or organisation (i.e. incorporated or unincorporated) shall have one vote.

Affiliate

Affiliate membership is open to corporate supporters such as statutory bodies and national voluntary sector organisations. Affiliate members benefit by being kept informed about CAS and its work, however, affiliate members do not enjoy the rights of full membership, except that they may attend general meetings as observers. As such, Affiliate membership is open to multiple individuals within the same organisation, where the Trustees deem appropriate, for example, senior officers within the local authority. 

Friend

Individual membership is open to committed individuals, substantial donors and others, such as community activists, which may not represent a particular organisation. Friends benefit by being kept informed about CAS and its work, however, Friends do not enjoy the rights of full membership, except that they may attend general meetings as observers.

*All members must share CAS’s values, and seek to further its objects and members must keep CAS informed of any change of contact details.
